'Beside The Sea'
Sensory Audio Story Project for Those Living with Dementia
We were commissioned by Activate Arts Performing Arts, as part of their Creative Communities in Quarantine micro-commissions fund, to respond to the impact of COVID-19 on communities throughout Dorset. The funding seeks to engage those isolated from their family and friends and who are unable to access pre-existing activities and networks.
We will produce a sensory audio story centred around a ‘day at the seaside’ suited to those living with dementia. This will be accompanied by a ‘sensory tray’ incorporating a selection of multi-sensory resources, with Care staff taking on an active role facilitating the activity - incorporating textures, scents & smells, tastes and visual prompts which complement the story setting and punctuate specific moments in the audio journey.
This is a collaboration between Paul Lawless and Theatre-maker/Musician Gill Simmons.
This project is currently in development.

We will be partnering with East Boro Housing to facilitate Clowning workshops to adults with a learning disability alongside Bianca Bertalot (NOS Three Theatre).
Workshops will be hosted at The Waverley Community Hub in Weymouth. The Waverley is a fun, dynamic and integrated social hub and multi-purpose community resource for adults and young people with learning disabilities, mental health needs, the elderly, carers, parents with young families, socially isolated and lonely people.
A well-organised monthly programme of events including art workshops for tenants, a diverse range of vulnerable groups and individuals and the wider local community.
This project will be facilitated in 2021.
We were shortlisted for the 'Projects that matter: Dorset campaign!' which is part-funded by Wessex FM & Dorset County Council.
Having reached our target through donations via our Crowdfunder page we are able to inspire, empower and foster the creative potential of LGBTQI+ teenagers in West Dorset through meaningful theatre devising workshops.
These sessions will cover various styles of performance including Puppetry, Physical Theatre, Improvisation and Writing for Theatre.
We will partner with Dorset-based charity Space Youth Project to deliver these sessions.
This project will be facilitated in 2021.
